Vitex grows wild along the water through Provence and the rest of the Mediterranean, and the berries have been gathered and dried there since antiquity. Long enough that Dioscorides wrote them down. We take them whole and unbroken.
Sharply peppery, almost like a mild black pepper, with a dry herbal finish. Strong on its own; good blended with something softer.
