About the herb
Consoude, for the skin and not the cup.
Comfrey has stood in French kitchen gardens for centuries, valued as much for the compost heap as the still-room, and the name comes from consolider, to knit back together. The broad leaves are cut before flowering and dried whole so they don't crumble to nothing.
It carries pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which the liver cannot clear and which build up over time, so comfrey is not drunk. Steeped strong and cooled it makes a compress, or tip the whole infusion into a warm bath.
